Frontenac Park Challenge

RIDEAU TRAIL ASSOCIATION (RTA)AND FRIENDS OF FRONTENAC INVITES YOU TO JOIN FRONTENAC PARK CHALLENGE

September 27, 2024

The Rideau Trail Association (RTA) in conjunction with Friends of Frontenac are currently running the Frontenac Challenge. Both social and hiking clubs currently invite avid hikers, nature lovers, fitness buffs and citizens alike to attempt the many (160 km) loops.

The Frontenac Challenge originally was created by Ontario Parks superintendent Llloyd Chapman in 1993 to honor the Ontario Parks system and has since, taken on a life of its own. The Challenge began registration in August 2024, but the actual attempt to venture the loops began September 1 2024 and runs until October 31 2024. Challengers have until October 15 2024 to register for the actual challenge. There are only 19 remaining days to register.

This year, there is a $5 fee to register for the Frontenac Challenge but fret not – membership is not required to register for the challenge as a public entry, and if you are already a member of the Friends of Frontenac – the $5 fee for the Frontenac Challenge is waived! And of course, we at The Rideau Trail Association (RTA) would like to welcome you to register for membership with us.

The Frontenc Challenge includes the following components:

There will be specific markers on the trail. Goal is to find, identify, record clues on signage on loops and submit the recordings to the challenge.

  1. a)  Frontenac Challenge: Hike all 11 hoops
  2. b)  Frontenac Trek: Hike any six loops (excluding the short Arab Lake Gorge and Doe Lake Loops)
  3. c)  Junior Challenge: Youngers under age of 12 may hike any six loops

The Rideau Trail Association (RTA) is a charitable, volunteer-run organization focused on hiking and maintaining the natural use of hiking trails as a social club. More can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/rideautrailRTA
